Yeah, me neither. But that was me last week. The weather outside was beautifully cloudy and cool and all I wanted to do was paint my laundry room. I peeked around on Pinterest, decided on a charcoal grey color, loaded a few items in the van to color match/coordinate and I went outside to round up the kids to have a little field trip to Lowe’s.
This is what I found.
Kaylin and Jason put chips in bowls to watch "in the audience" as Ryan played basketball.
My plans were foiled by three children enjoying the outdoors and getting along. (a rare event in the hot summer months of Phoenix) Curses!
So I prepped my workspace by taping and got the paint the next day. I love how it turned out. LOVE. A little bluer than I expected, but that could just be the lighting. Now if I could just figure out how to make that almond fridge match a little better...
What were my kids doing during all of this? Our laundry room was pretty cramped with the step stool out and the fridge pulled away from the wall, so they could only "help me" (I use that term loosely) one at a time. So I sent them off to make murals in the playroom, which was going to be painted next.
It killed me to paint over the actual murals my girlfriend painted seven years ago, but we're officially moving away from baby blocks in our house. (*sigh*)
The kids wanted to keep the ball and jacks on the wall, but there was just no way I was going to try to paint around them. We've enjoyed these works of art for enough years...it was time to move on.
Once the laundry room was put back together, I was ready to attack the playroom. I started slapping the blue paint on the wall and instantly stopped in my tracks. I tried to pick a color 2-3 shades lighter than navy and this is what I got.
The pictures make it look periwinkle, but it was more of a sky blue. Or worse, baby blue. It was seriously not what I was going for as we transition this to an "OLDER" room!
Back to Lowe’s I went. The blue I ended up with was more of a slate blue and I like it much, much better.
Now my problem is that the hunter green love seat (that we bought for my bedroom in, ahem...middle school) doesn’t look right. Since donating the t.v. in there, I’m wondering if we even need a couch? Does anyone even sit on it anymore? My mom suggested a pull-out couch so guests can have somewhere to sleep. I ran the idea by Mike and it’s officially in the plan. Now to sell the green love seat. The, um, 27 year old green love seat.
See? The green truly doesn't match.
This little burst of freshening up two rooms in less than 48 hours was fun! Just the type of pick-me-up I needed. Until I stumbled upon a decluttering challenge...getting rid of 2013 items from your home in 2013. I’m several months late, but I’m joining the bandwagon and starting with my kitchen drawers from back in January.
Anyone wanna join me?
